  • I fucking hate this though. I've see some games where they actually animate the character putting the gun down as they get close to the walls, but I'd prefer a bit more, like the gun accidentally scraping the wall and you can't move closer

    • Take a look at Escape from Tarkov, the weapon is completely rendered if you walk up to a wall the gun will not only for you but for everyone go to the side but you can still shoot, but if you shoot the bullet wont end in the wall, it will shoot at wherever the end of the barrel is pointed at. One of the few realistic games that exists at the moment.

  • This video is funny because it's just wrong with no excuse. All you have to do is just render the gun last and it won't clip into the wall. If you render the gun separately you won't get shadows or light on the gun. Many games these day don't even bother to do that, because there is no need.

  • I feel a little click baited 😅 I thought that anyone who played games with both Third person and First person options would have noticed that when in third person your gun almost never looks like it's in the same spot where the first person view holds it. Like gravity hammer in halo, in first person you kind of hold it sideways but in first person you hold it like a staff. ( if that makes sense)

  • Half true. While indeed an always in-display model of the gun is used while in first person view, competent game developers make sure the model of the gun counts towards the player's collision, you don't see the gun of npcs or other players clipping all the time, do you?

    • usually it's the job of the animations to stop the gun from clipping, not the players collision. if the collision changed based on what gun you had out, it would make taking cover and other basic activities way more annoying than they should be
